How to Write Effective Blog Posts

Having a blog can be a great way to showcase your writing.  When applying for blogging jobs, it is important to be able to show your prospective employer that you have the ability to maintain a blog by writing interesting, informative posts on a regular basis.  In order to write effectively, is it important that you:

1.  Make your post scannable.  Most readers will quickly scan webpages to determine if it contains the information that they need.  In order to make your posts reader friendly and scannable, be sure to:

  • Use Lists
  • Use Formatting
  • Use Headings
  • Use Pictures
  • Make Good Use of Space
  • Keep it Simple

2.  Make your posts the right length.  When considering the length of your post, keep the following factors in mind:

  • Think about reader attention span
  • Consider search engine optimization
  • The topic of that particular post

3.  Be sure to give your post the best title.  A great title will grab a reader’s attention.  Write effective titles by:

  • Keep the title simple
  • Use the title to grab your reader’s attention
  • Use your title to meet a need
  • Make the title descriptive
